Your account, sync, and backups

Choose what travels between your devices, protect a local copy, and understand your recovery options.

In this guide

Start locally, sign in when you need to

You can use Glean’s local devotional and private prayer features without an account. Creating a free account adds encrypted sync for selected content, trusted prayer sharing, and a balance for hosted Glean AI. Reading and keeping your existing content does not require an Unlimited plan.

On iPhone, open Settings and your account to sign in or create an account. On the website, use the account page. Follow the phone number, password, and verification steps shown. Use the same Glean account on each device you want to connect; creating another account will not bring over the first account’s library or purchases.

Choose what to sync

  1. On iPhone, open your account and choose Encrypted sync.
  2. Review the local devotions available to sync. Select the ones you want, sync all local devotions, or keep them local for now.
  3. Review the personal prayer sync choices separately. Check the status shown for each type of content.
  4. On another device, sign in to the same account and allow synchronization to finish.

Your library opens from the device you are using. Selected private content is encrypted there before upload. Turning off sync for a personal prayer removes its encrypted server copy while keeping the prayer on that iPhone. Sync is free and does not spend Glean credits.

Keep a backup before making changes

On iPhone, Settings → Privacy & data includes Export your devotions. Save the JSON file somewhere you control. The import options can bring in a legacy backup or a single devotional file.

That export is a devotional backup, not a promise to include every kind of data in Glean. Protect backup files as private information, and do not attach a complete backup to a support request. Before changing phones, deleting the app, or clearing browser storage, confirm that the content you need has synced or been exported. Device-only content may otherwise be lost.

Understand recovery before you need it

Protected or platform recovery allows a reviewed recovery process. You can request help from the account screen or account page; submitting a request does not immediately change your password.

Confidential accounts do not support owner-assisted recovery. If you lose your password and every signed-in device, Glean cannot recover your synced private content. Read the recovery choice carefully before changing it.

Logging out and deleting your account are different actions. Account deletion is permanent and does not cancel an Apple subscription. If you are unsure which action you need, contact support first. The privacy notice explains account and sync handling in more detail.
