Find a starting point with Guided Reflection

Talk or type through what you are carrying, then review an editable devotional focus.

Open Talk it through

Guided Reflection helps when you have something on your heart but are not sure how to begin a devotional. On iPhone, open New Devotion, look for Need a place to begin?, and choose Talk it through. You can speak or type; neither needs to sound like a finished journal entry.

The guided AI steps use Glean AI, so you need to sign in and have the access shown in the app. Before a request is sent, review its AI permission and displayed cost. Recording your voice and reviewing your own transcript are separate from asking AI to respond.

Gather and review your thoughts

  1. Choose speaking or typing in the reflection screen.
  2. If speaking, allow microphone access when prompted. The app may need to prepare or install on-device transcription for your language.
  3. Pause whenever you need. Check the transcript and correct names, missing words, or anything the phone misunderstood.
  4. Continue when the text says what you intended to share.

Raw Guided Reflection microphone audio is processed on the iPhone rather than uploaded by Glean. The text you choose to submit can be sent for AI processing. Reviewing a transcript is a useful opportunity to remove details you would rather keep to yourself. See AI and your data for that distinction.

Keep the final words yours

Glean can help identify themes and ask follow-up questions before presenting a devotional reflection. Read the proposed focus and edit it until it sounds like you. You can use Keep refining rather than accepting wording that does not fit.

Choose Use this reflection when you are ready. This returns the focus to the devotional creation flow, where you can review your duration, cadence, and creation option. Finishing Guided Reflection does not itself mean that a complete devotional has already been generated.

Return to a draft or recover from an interruption

From New Devotion, Continue your reflection can return to a saved draft, while All reflections opens your reflection drafts. These drafts are saved on the device; do not assume an unfinished reflection has moved to another phone.

If processing is interrupted, use the offered Resume processing or Try again action. If the app asks for credits, open Credit Center and then return to the same request. If speaking is unavailable, you can continue by typing rather than waiting for microphone access or a language download.

Guided Reflection is a writing aid for your devotional practice. You can leave it and write your own starting reflection at any time.
