Create a devotional

Turn what is on your heart into a practice of Scripture, reflection, and prayer.

In this guide

Start with your own words

On iPhone, open Create and choose a new devotional. In New Devotion, write what is on your heart: a question, a hope, a decision, or something you are finding difficult. A few clear sentences are enough to give the devotional a direction. You can leave out names and details you do not want to share with an AI provider.

If getting started is the difficult part, open Need a place to begin? You can choose a starting prompt or use Talk it through for Guided Reflection. A starting prompt does not change the other devotional settings you have selected.

Choose the shape of your practice

  1. Select the duration in days and your daily reflection cadence.
  2. Adjust the tone toward comfort or growth.
  3. Open Advanced Settings if you want to adjust details such as focus, Scripture passages, or reflection depth.
  4. Review how you want to create the devotional, then use the creation action for that option.

Choose a size that feels manageable. More days or more questions are not required for a meaningful devotional. You can pause while reading and return to your saved practice later.

Choose how to create

  • Glean AI: sign in to use Glean credits or eligible Unlimited access. You can choose from the models currently offered in the app. Review the displayed cost and AI permission before submitting.
  • Gemini with your own key: provide your own Gemini API key. This does not use Glean credits; your provider account and its usage terms apply. Never send your key in a support message.
  • Copy and import: copy Glean’s prepared prompt, use it with your chosen AI service, and import the JSON response through Import JSON. Clipboard and file import are available.

The copy-and-import path expects the structured response requested by the prompt. An ordinary paragraph of devotional text is not the same as the required JSON. Glean checks the result against your chosen duration, cadence, and content settings before saving it.

After you submit

When creation finishes, open your devotional to read and respond. You can find it again in your library. If generation or import reports an error, read the message and use the available retry or correction option. For an import, check that you copied the complete JSON response rather than changing your settings to match an incomplete result.

If it still will not work, see troubleshooting. Include the creation option and error wording when asking for help, but keep API keys and personal reflection text private.
