Share prayer with people you trust

Understand personal prayers, one-to-one requests, Group Prayers, and Prayer Groups.

In this guide

Choose who the prayer is for

Saving a personal prayer does not automatically share it. On iPhone, the prayer editor distinguishes four choices: Just me, Ask people, Post to a Prayer Group, and Start a Group Prayer. Review the wording and audience before sending. Private journal notes are not something you need to send with a request.

Sharing requires a free Glean account. For an individual request, you also need an accepted connection; for a Prayer Group post, you need to belong to that group. If an option asks you to sign in, connect with someone, or update the app, complete that step before trying again.

Ask people individually

  1. Open the people area from the Prayer tab and connect using an invitation link, QR code, or friend code.
  2. Wait for the connection to be accepted. Glean does not offer a public people search.
  3. Create or choose a prayer to share, select Ask people, and choose the recipients.
  4. Review the request and send it when its words and audience are right.

Ask people creates separate one-to-one requests. A Circle is your private shortcut for selecting people; its name and membership are not shown to recipients. Selecting several people through a Circle does not turn those separate requests into a group room.

Group Prayer and Prayer Group are different

  • Group Prayer: one shared prayer for a small group of two to six people. Its prayer, messages, updates, and Scripture stay together, and participants can see the group’s roster.
  • Prayer Group: an ongoing group for conversation, Scripture, and multiple prayer requests, such as a Bible study’s continuing prayer life.

Choose Start a Group Prayer when the shared focus is one prayer. Choose Post to a Prayer Group to add a request to an existing group. Join or create the Prayer Group from the Prayer tab before trying to post to it. A group request is visible to the selected group’s members, so it has a different audience from a personal prayer or a separate one-to-one request.

Stay in control of the conversation

Use messages and updates to keep the relevant people informed. Depending on your choices, recording that you prayed can stay private or lead to an I prayed message. Review any prompt before notifying someone; your private practice and a message to another person are separate actions.

Notification settings let you adjust interruptions without changing who a prayer is shared with. If an invitation or conversation is unavailable, check that you are signed into the intended account. For help, send support the kind of invitation and the error wording, rather than forwarding private prayer or conversation content.
